Arlo Pro: Netgear launches its new wireless CCTV camera
The Arlo Pro, a new, completely wireless connected camera for indoors and outdoors, is being launched by Netgear this week.
The camera has a rechargeable 2,440mAh battery, which gives it a battery life of 4 to 6 months, which varies according to the setting, the use frequency and the temperature. For a prolonged use, it is possible to use the good old battery charger.
The Arlo Pro offers a view angle of 130°, is resistant to bad weather and supports bidirectional audio as well as night vision.
The camera also contains a movement detector, in order to only record important events – within a radius of 7 meters – and to send alerts on the owner’s smartphone when activity is detected. Netgear promised to add this year an intelligent movement recognition system, that will recognise the type of moving object – animals, cars, people – and thereby reduce the number of false alarms.
The camera now has an application for iOS, for the Apple TV, and for the Apple Watch, and allows for free recording of the 7 last days’ video clips in the cloud or in the home by using a USB stick or a hard disk.
The Arlo Pro is available on Amazon for a list price of US$249.99. Netgear also proposes different configurations from 1 to 4 cameras, as well as dedicated accessories, such as base stations, charging stations, add-on batteries and protecting sleeves.
This shows that connected device manufacturers now consider Apple TV support as a key feature to be implemented at launch, and not anymore as an optional convenience. The market share of the Apple TV is shown to be important, and releasing a tvOS application for your device can help to improve its perception.
