Apple plans to create a premium TV bundle including HBO, Showtime, and Starz
Up until now, Apple couldn’t manage to enter the television market. The manufacturer made several backstage attempts, but negociations stalled soon after they started. Today, Recode reports that Apple is currently working on a new TV package in the USA, marketed as premium.
Apple’s idea is to sell HBO, Showtime, and Starz together as a bundle. The first is the most known of all three, because of its content offering that notably includes the TV series Game of Thrones and Westworld, which lure in millions of viewers each episode. For your information, Game of Thrones has been the most illegally downloaded TV series since 2011.
American Apple TV users can already subscribe to HBO, Showtime, and Starz from their device; the respective prices are $15, $11, and $9, for a total of $35 for all 3 channels. The idea here would be to have a single package at a more competitive price. This package could then be watched on an iPhone, an iPad or an Apple TV with a single subscription.
At the time of writing this article, Apple hasn’t yet reached an agreement – and therefore a price – with the 3 premium TV channels and negociations are still ongoing. It is unknown whether Apple plans to sell such premium TV packages in other countries.
